History

Formed in 1996, UWAFT is still relatively young; however, it quickly built a reputation as a leader in alternative fuel competitions and as a strong promoter of alternative fuel education and awareness. Supervised by Dr. Roydon Fraser, the team has competed in numerous North American alternative fuel competitions. The competitions traditionally involve over a dozen universities from Canada, U.S.A and around the world. Most competitions provide each university teams with a stock gasoline operated vehicle and is given less than a year to develop and implement the strategies and technologies required to run it optimally on an alternative fuel such as ethanol or propane.
