After taking a year hiatus from competitions, UWAFT was back in action with the 2003 Tour de Sol. Similar to the 2001 Tour de Sol, teams competed in several vehicle categories from electric, hybrid and even solar cars. UWAFT had a double entry this year, with a tri-fuel 1999 Chevrolet Silverado (gasoline, E-85 and LPG), and a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu, with the stock 3.1 litre engine replaced with a more efficient E-85 1.9 litre Saturn engine.
Beginning in Burlington, NJ and finishing in Washington, DC, the competition ran from May 10th-14th.
